Dante's Inferno: Divine Edition (Dante's Inferno - PS3)
Dante's Inferno is a 2010 action video game developed by Visceral Games and published by Electronic Arts. The game was released for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable in February 2010. The PlayStation Portable version was developed by Artificial Mind and Movement.

The game's story is loosely based on Inferno, the first canticle of Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy. It follows Dante, imagined as a Templar knight from the Crusade, who, guided by the spirit of the poet Virgil, needs to fight through the nine Circles of Hell to rescue Beatrice from the clutches of Lucifer himself. In the game, players control Dante from a third-person perspective. His primary weapon is a scythe that can be used in a series of combination attacks and finishing moves. Many attack combinations and abilities can be unlocked in exchange for souls, an in-game currency that is collected upon defeating enemies.

Before the game's release, Dante's Inferno underwent a prominent, at times elaborate marketing campaign led by the game's publisher Electronic Arts. This included the release of a fake religious game called Mass: We Pray, a motion controller-based game supposedly allowing players to engage in an interactive prayer and church sermon. The game received generally positive reviews upon release; critics praised the game's art style and level design, with some comparing it to God of War III.

A direct-to-DVD animated movie based on the video game, titled Dante's Inferno: An Animated Epic, was released simultaneously with it. A live action film adaptation is also currently in the works.

Dante's Inferno is an action-adventure game. The player controls Dante, the game's protagonist, and engages in fast-paced combat, platforming and environment-based puzzles. In the game, Dante's primary weapon is Death's scythe that can be used in a series of combination attacks and finishing moves. His secondary weapon is a Holy Cross that fires a volley of energy as a projectile attack. In addition, Dante can use numerous magic based attacks and abilities channeled from a mana pool to help in combat, many of which are obtained as the game progresses. A quick time event system is used when attempting to discharge the demon of its master (unbind from host) and during boss fights, where players must press the highlighted button on screen in order to continue the chain of attacks, or be countered and wounded otherwise.

Many attack combinations and abilities can be unlocked in exchange for souls, an in-game currency that is collected upon defeating enemies or locating soul fountains. Each of these skills fall into two categories; Holy (represented by blue orbs) or Unholy (represented by red orbs) skill trees. At the beginning of the game, both skill trees are equal in power, but as Dante gains more Holy and Unholy experience, more abilities become available for purchase. Experience is collected through the game's "Punish or Absolve" system, where upon defeating enemies, Dante can either punish and dismember them or absolve and save them with the Holy Cross. Much experience can also be accumulated in punishing or absolving the damned souls of many famous figures in history that appear in Dante Alighieri's original The Divine Comedy whereupon choosing their fates, players enter a mini game where the characters' "sins" move towards the center of the screen, pressing required action symbols once the sin is in place. Players are rewarded with more souls and experience as the number of sins collected increases.

The game involves large sections of platforming, including swinging between ropes and climbing walls, both of which can involve hazards such as fire or swinging blades. There is also a series of environment-based puzzle sequences that can impair the progress of Dante's quest, such as requiring the correct positioning of movable objects or pulling levers at the appropriate time. In addition, there are numerous hidden passages where Biblical relics can be found and equipped to improve Dante's abilities.

On 7 July 2000, Sony released the PS one, a smaller, redesigned version of the original PlayStation. It was the highest-selling console through the end of the year, outselling all other consoles - including Sony's own PlayStation 2. A total of 28.15 million PS one units had been sold by the time it was discontinued in March 2006. A version of the PS one included a 5-inch (130 mm) LCD screen, referred to as the "Combo pack".

PlayStation 2's 300 Mhz processor delivers enhanced clarity and mesmerizing graphics. What's more, the PlayStation 2 doubles as a CD/DVD player. It also plays most of the original PlayStation games. Step into the 128-bit universe brought to you by PlayStation 2. You'll enjoy the look, sound, and feel of unbelievable, near-cinematic realism as you play. PlayStation 2 offers the most advanced games across every genre, DVD video playback as a standard feature, Dolby Digital 5.1 theater-quality sound, and the ability to play the immense catalog of PlayStation games. So, what are you waiting for?

The 128-Bit Emotion Engine is the first chip of its kind. No other mass-market computer technology on the market comes close to its power. In the PlayStation2, this chip is used as the workhorse of the console. It processes all physics and math calculations.

The PlayStation2 has a 128-Bit Emotion Engine. The 128-Bit part of the title means that this chipset both processes information and sends it over a 128-Bit bus (A Bus is the pathway between chips on a circuit board. A wide bus carries more bits of information and is thus faster than a narrower bus).

You may think that your PC has a faster processor, but remember that the Emotion Engine has inherently faster 128-Bit processing and it is just a part of the overall PlayStation2 power.

A small note for the really detail oriented: The reason that the speed is 294.912 MHz, is that it must be a multiple of a required processor speed that supports the DVD ROM operations.

Specifics:
  • Dimensions: 301mm (W) x 178mm (H) x 78mm (D), (12" x 7" x 3").
  • Weight: 2.1 kg (4 lbs. 10 oz.).
  • Media: PlayStation2 CD-ROM, DVD-ROM & PlayStation CD-ROM, CD Audio This means your PlayStation 2 will basically play all your old PlayStation games (but not make them look better), all music CDs & all North American DVDs.
  • Interfaces: Controller Port (2) These are the same as the controller ports on the current PlayStation.
  • Interfaces: Memory Card Slot (2) These slots are very similar to the ones on the original PlayStation, except they support the new, faster transfer rate.
  • Interfaces: AV Multi Cable Output (1) This is where you plug the cord that goes to the back of your television.
  • Interfaces: Optical Digital Output (1) This port will let you send data directly to a digital receiver. This is perfect if you plan to plug your PlayStation into a DTS or Dolby receiver and get perfect sound. If you don't use digital output, your data will be converted to an analog signal and then be converted back to digital at the receiver.
  • Interfaces: USB Port (2) USB enables you to connect any number of devices to your system with a high-speed data link.
  • Interfaces: I.Link (IEEE1394) (1) The IEEE139 port is known by two names: I.Link and for Mac owners, FireWire - there are some minor differences between the two. This high-data transfer port has the advantage of supplying (some) power to devices that are connected. You can expect that an enormous number of hardware devices will use this port including speakers, printers, and other like devices.
  • Interfaces: Type III PCMCIA Card Slot. This slot is a lot like a laptop's add-in slot. Here you will be able to plug in a modem and eventually the connection for Sony's planned broadband network and hard drive.
